Re-Powering The ‘Pammy’
Carter Machinery knows the grueling nature of the marine environment can make your boat’s engine a shadow of its former self. We take pride in putting new life into your old vessel.
We recently re-powered a 1988 Ocean Yacht Super Sport 48-foot vessel named Pammy located in Fisherman’s Wharf Marina in Virginia Beach.
The owner wanted a quieter option than the two Detroit Diesel 6V71 marine engines, which also produced enough smoke that it made fishing and hanging out in the cockpit less enjoyable. The owner also hoped to get around faster, with the old engines’ cruising speed at 18 knots and a maximum speed of 24 knots.
We replaced the old engines with two CAT® C7.1 500bhp marine propulsion engines and ZF2801A marine gears.
The results? Quieter, cleaner air which now blows by at a new cruising speed of 24 knots and a maximum speed of 30 knots.
